I was asked to make some doors for a 6' tall bookcase so that it could be
used as a cabinet in a kitchen for spices and other cooking accesories. The bookcase
had a nice decorative faceframe with an arch at the top of the opening.
I made two panel doors using 3/4" poplar for the rails and stiles
and 1/4" birch plywood for the panels. I cut the top of the doors
at the bandsaw to match the arched opening at the top of the bookcase.
I attached the doors using barrel hinges which are completely recessed
in both the doors and the face frame. The doors open well beyond
90 degrees which provides easy access to the shelves inside (not shown).
