Kenseido Box

Several years ago, a friend of mine made this cedar box and I helped with the finishing.  I also made the unique top to the box.  The box is made from 3/8" cedar and it measures 8¾" x 6" x 4".

The design on the top of the box is the symbol for a Japanese martial art called Kenseido that I was studying and teaching at the time.  I cut the design with a scroll saw out of two pieces of ¼" thick cedar.  The outer part of the design (circle with inscribed diamond) is all one piece.  The character in the middle is all one piece as well.

I finished two of the boxes exactly alike.  I kept one and gave the other to my lead instructor when he moved back to Japan.
