The best Sherlock Holmes movies are the ones made in the 1930's and '40's starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.  These actors made a total of fourteen films together and created the Holmes and Watson characters by which all other actors since then have been judged.
